In honor of David’s retirement, the firm celebrates him for his contributions to our culture and growth, as well as his dedicated service to clients.
From Accountant to Attorney
“David started as a student at Rutgers Business School in Newark, which he actually attended with my father-in-law,” said Steven Loeb, Chair of the Tax and Trusts & Estates Groups. “He then went on to become an accountant at the firm of Touche Ross – now known as Deloitte – when he enrolled at Seton Hall University School of Law.”
It was on the first day that he met Francis J. Giantomasi.
“I met David on my first day of law school in 1976 – we had every class together for the first year,” said Frank Giantomasi, Co-Chair of the Executive Committee. “He was really smart and also was a good athlete who loved to play basketball. We became very close friends, and that friendship continued and grew throughout the years.”
Game-Changing Pick-Up Basketball Games
David is a huge basketball fan, and in his younger days, he was an avid and frequent player in pick-up games. Those games, in fact, would help bring him to the firm.
“Here’s a fact that people may not know about David,” said Jeffrey S. Chiesa, Co-Chair of the Executive Committee. “David was introduced to this law firm through pick-up basketball games with David Samson, and he was among the first dozen or so attorneys to join the firm.”
“Things like that are just all part of the lore of the firm,” said Dennis M. Toft, Chair of the Environmental Group.
Client First
Roxanna Hammett, a Member of the Trusts & Estates Group, first met David when she was starting her career as a summer associate at Wolff & Samson.
“I wanted to do estate planning and estate administration, and the person doing that at the firm was David,” she said. “He was always very responsible and concerned about his clients, providing prompt legal services and doing the best possible job for them.”
Legacy
David may be retiring but his legacy at the firm remains.
“The firm’s financial prudence was shaped largely by Dave Schlossberg with the support of the Executive Committee throughout, and he deserves a lot of credit for the growth of this firm,” said Armen Shahinian. “When I joined the firm, there were 10 lawyers and now we’re over 200 lawyers. The fact that we’ve been able to grow responsibly and to attract other people because of how well run we were over those years is a tribute to David.”
“There’s never been a moment where I felt I couldn’t rely on him or count on him, and the reason for that is, at every step of his career, he always put the firm’s interest ahead of his own,” said Jeff Chiesa.
