CSG Law Alert: Fraud Alert – Targeted at Land Use Applicants
Please be advised that a very sophisticated scam is currently underway targeted at land use applicants. Applicants with pending matters before municipal planning and zoning boards are receiving emails from what is purported to be the board requesting that an application review and approval fee be wired to it. The body of the email contains detailed information related to the subject property and proposed development under review. It goes on to state that the payment of the fee is a necessary step to proceed with the final approval process. These high-level scammers are also attaching an itemized invoice with the municipal seal on it.
Don’t be fooled! Never wire money without verifying the source of the request. If you should receive a similar email, we urge you not to respond and contact your land use attorney immediately to verify the authenticity of the request.
