Eric D. Brophy chairs the firm’s Government & Regulatory Law Group, where he advises clients on policy strategies to engage effectively with government to maximize and advance their business interests. He represents companies, developers and institutions in matters involving policy strategy, regulatory compliance, procurement and campaign finance rules. Eric regularly advocates for clients before state agencies, legislative committees and local authorities.
With deep public sector knowledge, Eric is an experienced attorney who understands the dynamic interplay between the public and private sectors in the Garden State. He knows how government decisions are made and can effectively navigate the intricacies of state government, having served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Economic Growth to Governor Phil Murphy prior to joining the firm. In that role, Eric led the Governor’s economic portfolio advancing major economic initiatives across New Jersey.
He also previously served as Senior Advisor for Economic Growth in the Governor’s Office and as Executive Director of the New Jersey Educational Facilities Authority, where he oversaw billions of dollars in capital investments for higher education.
Eric’s practice is informed by a unique vantage point having worked at the highest levels of state government, building trusted relationships across state agencies and departments. This unique skill set helps clients anticipate regulatory risks, seize public sector opportunities and stay aligned with evolving state priorities and policies.
In addition to his regulatory affairs work, Eric is a member of the firm’s Redevelopment, Land Use & Zoning Group, where he advises clients on government-backed development projects, state incentive programs, public-private partnerships and real estate strategies involving state and local government.
Before his service with the Murphy administration, Eric was a partner at Diegnan & Brophy, LLC, where he practiced municipal law and civil litigation. Eric earned his B.S., in Criminal Justice, from the University of Scranton, and his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law.
